A synth pop icon - now for Kontakt
-
Best of VFX is a collection of custom-sampled virtual instruments, crafted from the ground up to evoke the unmistakeable sounds of the Ensoniq VFX, popular from the late-80s through the early 90s.
-
On the heels of the Roland D-50 - the first synth to feature built-in high-quality effects - the VFX had its own unique sound and could easily produce slick, production-ready sounds right out of the box. Like most Ensoniq keyboards, it had a very airy, hi-fi character but with a characteristic punch not found elsewhere. As with DX Dreams, the raw sounds were recorded with extreme attention to detail through British 1073-style preamps and/or various analog tape models, so you get those iconic sounds captured with the best sonic presentation possible.

FAQ
-
Best of VFX for Kontakt is $39 (or a $19 crossgrade for existing MainStage version users) and includes all the samples and core patches from the original MainStage/Logic version, but rebuilt from scratch for Kontakt
Includes dry versions of every patch, as well as fully processed & editable versions that use Kontakt’s built-in effects
Includes custom “Nonlin” reverb sample from the AMS RMX16 - part of an upcoming separate expansion, for adding that crucial ingredient to 80s synth sounds
-
While MainStage is meant for live performance - with complex layered sounds, an advanced on-screen interface and matched iPad controller - Kontakt is meant for much simpler use inside a Digital Audio Workstation, where you generally use one sound at a time and add your own effects. However, both versions contain the same core samples and patches.
-
Absolutely! There is a $19 “loyalty” crossgrade for those who purchased a license for the MainStage version. The crossgrade requires an existing MainStage version installation & samples; inquire about your crossgrade HERE

See the videos below! Those were made with the MainStage version, but all the sounds are included in the Kontakt version. What you hear is what you get!

No, all BackStage Pass instruments (including Best of VFX) are designed to be standalone products.
So, while you do NOT need BackStage Pass, they do compliment each other really well and are designed to work together as a whole “ecosystem.”
BackStage Pass gives you pianos, electric pianos, pads, etc.; DX Dreams gives you tons of famous 80s synth sounds; and Blair Masters Signature Grand gives you a top notch acoustic piano. So, Best of VFX fits in with those perfectly!
